How the Business Days Calculator works

Enter two dates for the number of working days between them, with weekends removed and any public holidays you supply taken out as well. A holiday landing on a weekend is not subtracted twice, which is how this calculation usually comes out one day short.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate business days between two dates?

Count the total days, remove Saturdays and Sundays, then remove any public holidays that fall on a weekday. Holidays already on a weekend must not be removed again — they were excluded once already.

Does this include the start and end dates?

It counts the interval rather than both endpoints, so Monday to Friday is four working days. If you need the inclusive count — five — add one. Contracts differ on which they mean, so it is worth checking the wording.

Which days count as the weekend?

Saturday and Sunday here. That is not universal: much of the Middle East works Sunday to Thursday, and some countries have a single rest day. Check the convention before applying this to an agreement.

Why do I need to enter holidays myself?

Because public holidays vary by country, region and year, and a built-in list would silently go stale. An outdated holiday list is worse than none, since it produces a confident wrong answer.
