P₁V₁ = P₂V₂ at constant temperature. Pressure and volume are inversely proportional.

Where does it apply in practice?

Syringes, diving, and lungs. A diver's air volume halves at 10 metres because the pressure doubles, which is why ascending while holding your breath is dangerous.

Does temperature need to be constant?

Yes — that is the condition of the law. If temperature changes as well, use the combined gas law instead.
