This is a snapshot, not a forecast. Difficulty and price both move constantly and often in opposite directions, so a calculation that looks profitable today can invert within weeks and frequently does. The break-even electricity price is the durable number. It says what you would need to pay for power for the operation to be viable, and it does not depend on guessing where the price goes — which is why industrial miners chase cheap power rather than better hardware. Efficiency in joules per terahash is what separates current hardware from obsolete. Difficulty adjusts to total network power, so any machine less efficient than the network average is eventually mining at a loss no matter what the price does.

How the Mining Profitability Calculator works

Daily profit from hash rate, power draw and network difficulty, with hardware payback. Difficulty and price both move constantly, so the break-even electricity price is the figure that survives.

Frequently asked questions

Is mining profitable?

It depends almost entirely on electricity price and hardware efficiency. This is a snapshot at today's difficulty and price, both of which move constantly and often in opposite directions.

What is the break-even electricity price?

The rate at which revenue exactly covers power. It does not depend on guessing where the coin price goes, which is why industrial miners chase cheap power rather than better hardware.

What does efficiency mean here?

Joules per terahash — power divided by hash rate. Difficulty adjusts to total network power, so any machine less efficient than the network average eventually mines at a loss.

Should I mine solo or in a pool?

A pool, below industrial scale. Solo mining at a small share is a lottery with expected waits measured in years; a pool converts that into frequent small payouts with the same expected value.

What about hardware depreciation?

It is severe and not modelled here. Mining hardware loses value quickly as more efficient machines arrive, so payback periods longer than a year or so carry substantial obsolescence risk.
