Marketplace fee models change often, and several platforms in this set have altered theirs outright in recent years. These defaults are a starting point, your own seller terms are the authority.
Profit per order
$18.55
41.2% margin
Creator commission is larger than the platform's own fee here, $4.05 against $3.60. On TikTok Shop the affiliate rate is usually the number that decides whether a product works, and it is the one you actually control.
How the TikTok Shop Profit Calculator works
On TikTok Shop the creator commission is usually the number that decides whether a product works, and unlike the referral fee, it is the one you set. Blending it across the share of orders that actually come through affiliates is what makes the maths honest.

Behind the number
Profit per TikTok Shop order is the price less the platform fee, less any affiliate commission, less fulfilment, less cost of goods, less the returns provision, which on impulse-driven purchases runs higher than on search-driven ones.
Profit = price − platform fee − affiliate commission − fulfilment − COGS − returns provision.
The returns line deserves more weight here than elsewhere, because impulse purchases are returned more often than considered ones.
A real example
The $58 item: $3.48 platform fee, $8.70 affiliate at 15%, $13.20 fulfilment, $26.10 goods, $6.52 before returns.
At a 12% return rate costing $12 each, that is $1.44 a unit: $5.08 net, an 8.8% margin.
Without the affiliate commission the same order nets $13.78, a 23.8% margin.
So on these assumptions a creator-driven sale is worth roughly a third of an organic one, and the channel only works if creators generate volume that would not otherwise exist.
The usual mistakes
Attribution to a creator is generous, a sale within the attribution window after any interaction is credited, including from viewers who already knew the brand.
Return rates on live and short-video commerce run materially above search-driven ecommerce in most categories, and a model built on general ecommerce return assumptions will understate them.
Using the result
Track return rate on this channel separately rather than using a blended figure. It is frequently the difference between the channel being profitable and not.
Then measure whether affiliate volume is incremental by comparing total sales in periods with and without active creator campaigns, not by reading attributed sales.
Building for the channel rather than adapting to it
The sellers who make this channel work generally design the product, the packaging and the price point for it: a clear demonstration, a price low enough for an impulse decision, and margin structured to survive an affiliate commission.
That usually means a higher gross margin than a search-driven product needs: 70% or more: because 15% goes to a creator, the platform takes its cut, and the return rate is higher.
A product with a 45% gross margin that works well on Amazon will not survive this channel's cost structure, and no amount of content strategy fixes that. The margin requirement is the first thing to check and it is usually the thing that decides whether a product belongs here at all.
Demand from a single viral video arrives faster than most supply chains can respond, and a stockout at that moment wastes the entire content investment.
Holding more stock than steady-state demand justifies is the cost of participating in a channel where sales are lumpy and unpredictable, and it belongs in the working capital calculation before the channel is scaled.
Sampling is the other cost specific to the channel: creators generally expect free product before promoting it, and a proportion of those samples produce nothing. At a 30% conversion from sample to content, each piece of published content costs three units of goods before any commission is paid.
Content production belongs in this margin model in a way it does not on most marketplaces. TikTok Shop sales are driven by video and by live selling, both of which cost time or money to produce, and by affiliate commission to creators. A profit figure counting only platform fees and cost of goods will look healthy on a channel whose real acquisition cost sits entirely outside those lines.

Not financial advice. Marketplace fees change, and they vary by country, plan and seller status. Every rate here is an editable default, not a quoted price, check the platform's current fee schedule before you price a product against it. This is not tax or business advice.
Frequently asked questions
What commission should I offer creators?
Enough that the product is worth promoting against everything else in the marketplace, commonly 10% to 20%. Too low and nobody picks it up; too high and the orders are not worth having.
Do all orders carry affiliate commission?
No, only those attributed to a creator. Blending the commission across your actual affiliate share gives the real average cost, which is usually well below the headline rate.
What margin do I need?
More than on a conventional marketplace, because you are paying both a platform fee and a creator. Sellers who succeed here typically have 65% or better gross margin before either.
How do samples factor in?
Every creator who requests a sample costs you a unit plus shipping, and most will not convert into meaningful sales. Budget it as a marketing cost with a low hit rate, not as a per-order expense.
