v = u + at. The distance uses s = ut + ½at², which is not the same as average speed times time unless the acceleration is constant — and here it is assumed to be. Notice the average speed is exactly halfway between the start and end values, which is only true for constant acceleration.

v = u + at gives the final velocity, and s = ut + ½at² gives the distance covered getting there. Both assume the acceleration stays constant, which is the assumption every SUVAT equation rests on.

What is the final velocity formula?

v = u + at — starting velocity plus acceleration times time. Starting from rest at 5 m/s² for 10 seconds gives 50 m/s.

What is the difference between speed and velocity?

Velocity has a direction and speed does not. In one dimension the distinction shows up as a sign: −20 m/s and +20 m/s are the same speed and opposite velocities.

How far does it travel?

s = ut + ½at². This is not simply average speed times time unless the acceleration is constant — though when it is, the two agree exactly.

Why is the average speed halfway between start and end?

Because constant acceleration makes velocity change linearly with time, and the average of a straight line is its midpoint. Under varying acceleration this is no longer true.
