How the Etsy Profit Calculator works
Revenue is what the buyer paid. Profit is what survives fees, materials, packaging, shipping and your own time — and for a lot of handmade sellers the last of those is the one never counted. This puts all five in one place and shows what the sale actually paid you per hour.
Not financial advice. Marketplace fees change, and they vary by country, plan and seller status. Every rate here is an editable default, not a quoted price — check the platform's current fee schedule before you price a product against it. This is not tax or business advice.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good profit margin on Etsy?
Handmade sellers commonly target 40-60% gross margin before their own labour, because fees and materials both scale with volume. Once labour is properly costed, a healthy net margin is often 20-30%. Anything under 15% leaves no room for a fee increase or a bad month.
Should I count my own time as a cost?
Yes, and it is the single most common omission. A shop that looks profitable at $18 an order can be paying its owner $4 an hour. Costing labour at a rate you would accept from an employer is what turns a hobby's arithmetic into a business's.
Why is my Etsy profit lower than I calculated?
Usually one of four things: the transaction fee applies to shipping as well as the item; auto-renewal charges a listing fee again on every sale; Offsite Ads commission lands on orders you did not know were attributed; or packaging and shipping supplies were never costed at all.
Does Etsy profit include tax I owe?
No. The figure here is profit before your own income and self-employment tax. Set aside roughly 25-30% of net profit for tax if you are self-employed in most jurisdictions, and confirm the rate that applies to you.
