Offer the cheapest service that meets your delivery promise, and sell express as a paid upgrade rather than absorbing it as standard.
How the Parcel Shipping Calculator works
Parcel pricing is a grid of weight bands against zones, with a different grid per service level. The practical decision is usually which service to offer as standard — the gap between economy and express is often larger than the margin on the order.
Not financial advice. Marketplace fees change, and they vary by country, plan and seller status. Every rate here is an editable default, not a quoted price — check the platform's current fee schedule before you price a product against it. This is not tax or business advice.
Frequently asked questions
Which service level should I offer as standard?
The cheapest one whose transit time matches what your customers expect. Offering express as standard on low-margin goods is a common and expensive mistake; offering it as a paid upgrade captures the customers who genuinely want it.
How much cheaper is economy?
Often 30-50% below express for one or two extra days in transit. For most ecommerce that trade is worth taking, provided the delivery promise on the product page matches the service actually used.
Do I get better rates through a platform?
Usually yes at low volume. Shipping platforms aggregate volume and pass on discounted rates that a small shipper could not negotiate directly. Above meaningful volume, negotiating with the carrier directly starts to beat them.
What is a surcharge-free rate?
Rarely available. Fuel is applied to almost every shipment and changes weekly, and residential delivery applies to most consumer orders. Quote yourself the all-in figure rather than the base rate, or your margin calculations will be optimistic.
