Marketplace fee models change often, and several platforms in this set have altered theirs outright in recent years. These defaults are a starting point, your own seller terms are the authority.
Target Plus fees
$6.12
12% of the $51.00 order
Commission is charged on the shipping the buyer paid as well as the item, adding $0.72 per order. Free shipping built into the price costs the same as shipping charged separately here. Referral rates run roughly 5% to 15% by category. Target Plus is invitation-only and curated, so the relevant comparison is against the traffic it provides rather than against open marketplaces.
How the Target Plus Fee Calculator works
Target Plus is invitation-only and deliberately curated, which changes the calculation. The referral rates are conventional; what you are really evaluating is whether the traffic from a closed marketplace justifies the operational requirements of joining one.

How it is calculated
Target Plus is an invitation-only curated marketplace charging a commission by category, with the seller fulfilling orders and meeting Target's service standards.
Net = price − (price × category commission) − fulfilment − returns, where returns may be accepted in Target stores and processed back to the seller.
Commission rates are broadly comparable to other general marketplaces, so the differentiator is the curation rather than the economics.
Numbers on it
The $58 item at a 12% commission: $6.96, leaving $51.04. Against $26.10 of goods and $13.20 of fulfilment, profit is $11.74, a 20.2% margin.
In-store returns add a cost: a customer returning to a Target store creates a return the seller pays for, at a rate that can exceed a mailed return once the reverse logistics are counted.
At a 7% return rate costing $14 each, that is $0.98 a unit: $10.76 net, an 18.6% margin.
The compensation is a curated environment with far fewer competing sellers than an open marketplace, which usually means better conversion and less price pressure.
What it does not tell you
Invitation-only curation means limited direct competition on the same product, which is worth real money and does not appear in a fee comparison.
Against that, the service standards are strict and the platform is willing to remove sellers who miss them, so operational reliability is a condition of access rather than a nice-to-have.
What follows from it
Model the in-store return path explicitly, since it is a channel-specific cost that a general returns assumption will miss.
Then value the reduced competition properly. A modest commission on a listing with three competitors is frequently better than a lower one with three hundred.
Curated marketplaces as a channel type
The curated model trades reach for quality of placement. Fewer sellers means less price competition, better conversion and a more brand-appropriate context, all of which are worth more to a differentiated product than to a commodity.
It also means the platform is selective, and access is a genuine asset rather than a signup. Sellers who obtain it usually find the economics better than open marketplaces at the same commission.
The strategic point is that not all marketplaces are the same channel with different rates. An open marketplace is a search-and-price environment; a curated one is closer to a retail partnership, and it rewards the things retail rewards: brand, presentation, reliability, rather than the things search rewards.
Curated marketplaces generally expect the seller's content, imagery and product data to meet the host retailer's standards rather than a generic marketplace's.
That is real preparation work per listing, and it is worth scoping before committing, but it also raises the quality of the listing everywhere else, since the same assets can be reused across channels.
Because the marketplace is invitation-only, the practical question for most sellers is how to be invited rather than how to model the fee. Established performance on other channels, a differentiated product and brand presentation that fits the host retailer are what the curation looks for.

Not financial advice. Marketplace fees change, and they vary by country, plan and seller status. Every rate here is an editable default, not a quoted price, check the platform's current fee schedule before you price a product against it. This is not tax or business advice.
Frequently asked questions
What does Target Plus charge?
A referral fee of roughly 5% to 15% by category on the order total. There is no monthly subscription in the standard arrangement.
How do I get on it?
By invitation. Target curates the marketplace rather than opening it, so acceptance depends on brand fit, category gaps and operational capability rather than on application volume.
What are the operational requirements?
Strict fulfilment performance standards, integration through an approved platform, and adherence to Target's content and pricing rules. It is closer to a wholesale relationship than to an open marketplace.
Is the traffic worth it?
Volumes are well below Amazon or Walmart, but competition within a curated category is far lighter. For brands that fit, conversion rates are typically strong.
