eBay collects and remits this, so it never reaches you. It may still sit in the fee base.
Varies by category, from roughly 2.5% to 15.3%. Check yours on eBay's fee page and change this.
Leave blank to apply the standard tiers: $0.30 at or below $10, $0.40 above.
The carrier's charge, not what you billed the buyer. The gap between the two is where reseller margin quietly goes.
Sourcing, photographing, listing, packing and the trip to post. Optional, but it is what turns a margin into an hourly rate.

eBay's final value fee runs from roughly 2.5% to 15.3% depending on category, and changed on some marketplaces in July 2026. The default here is the standard-category rate; check your own category on eBay's fee page and edit it above before pricing against this.
How the eBay Profit Calculator works
The gap between an eBay sale and eBay profit is wider than most sellers price for, because three separate things come out of it: the platform's percentage, what the item cost you, and the postage you paid rather than the postage you charged. Resellers in particular tend to track the first two and absorb the third quietly.

Not financial advice. Marketplace fees change, and they vary by country, plan and seller status. Every rate here is an editable default, not a quoted price, check the platform's current fee schedule before you price a product against it. This is not tax or business advice.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good profit margin on eBay?
Resellers commonly target 30-50% of the sale price after fees and cost of goods, before their own time. Below about 20% there is no room for a return, a postage rise or an item that sells for less than expected, all of which happen regularly.
Why is my eBay profit lower than expected?
The most common cause is postage: the buyer paid a flat rate that no longer covers what the carrier charges, and the shortfall is invisible per order but substantial per month. After that, the fee applying to shipping and tax, and unaccounted packaging costs.
Should I offer free shipping on eBay?
It helps conversion and search placement, but it is not a saving. The postage cost moves into the item price, where the final value fee percentage is charged on it anyway. Treat it as a pricing and visibility decision, not a fee-reduction one.
Do I count my own time in eBay profit?
Worth tracking separately. Sourcing, photographing, listing, packing and post office trips are real hours, and a reseller clearing $12 an order can be earning very little per hour once they are counted. Profit before labour tells you if the model works; after labour tells you what you earn.
