Listing in the currency your bank account holds removes this entirely. Weigh that against how much of your traffic is in the other currency.
How the Etsy Currency Conversion Fee Calculator works
If your listings are priced in one currency and your bank account is in another, Etsy converts on every payout and charges around 2.5% for doing it. For sellers outside the US listing in dollars to reach American buyers, that is a permanent charge on all revenue.
Not financial advice. Marketplace fees change, and they vary by country, plan and seller status. Every rate here is an editable default, not a quoted price — check the platform's current fee schedule before you price a product against it. This is not tax or business advice.
Frequently asked questions
How much is Etsy's currency conversion fee?
Approximately 2.5% of the converted amount, applied whenever your listing currency and payment account currency differ. It is charged on the payout, so it applies to your entire revenue rather than to individual fees.
How do I avoid the currency conversion fee?
List in the same currency your bank account holds. That removes the fee entirely, at the cost of showing prices in a currency some buyers must convert mentally. Alternatively, some sellers hold a multi-currency account in the listing currency.
Is listing in USD worth the conversion fee?
It depends on how much of your traffic is American. US buyers are the largest group on Etsy and converted prices can deter them, but 2.5% of all revenue is a substantial permanent cost. Model both against your actual buyer mix.
Does Etsy use the real exchange rate?
Etsy applies its own rate, and the 2.5% fee is charged on top of whatever spread that rate already contains. The effective cost is therefore usually somewhat more than 2.5% against the mid-market rate.
