Offsite Ads charges a commission only when a sale is attributed to an ad Etsy placed for you on Google, Facebook or elsewhere. The commission is large — 12% or 15% on top of every other fee — and once your shop passes the revenue threshold, participation stops being optional.

Can I opt out of Offsite Ads?
Only below the threshold. Shops with under $10,000 in trailing-year revenue can opt out in settings. Once you cross it you are enrolled permanently and cannot leave, though the rate drops to 12%.
When is an order attributed to Offsite Ads?
When a buyer clicks one of Etsy's external ads for your listing and purchases within 30 days. It applies even if they returned to Etsy directly later, and even if they bought a different item from your shop — which is why the fee sometimes appears on orders that feel unrelated.
Is Offsite Ads worth it?
It depends on whether those buyers would have found you anyway. The commission is only charged on sales, so it cannot lose money outright — but at 15% on top of roughly 12% in standard fees, an attributed order needs a healthy margin to still be worth fulfilling.
