Shopify Plan Cost Comparison
Which plan is cheapest at your volume, all-in.
Compare Shopify Basic, Grow and Advanced on total monthly cost at your revenue, combining the subscription with the card rate each plan charges.
Used to count orders, because the card fee has a flat per-transaction part.
Anything settled outside Shopify Payments, such as PayPal or bank transfer, is not charged the card rate.

This compares plan and card costs only. App subscriptions, themes and domains are the same on every plan, so they do not change the answer, though they very much belong in your total cost. Rates last verified August 2026. Platforms change fees without much notice, every rate here is editable, and you should check the current schedule before pricing against it.
How the Shopify Plan Cost Comparison works
Shopify's plans trade a higher subscription for a lower card rate, so the cheapest plan is entirely a function of volume: below a certain monthly revenue Basic wins, above it the saved percentage more than covers the extra subscription. The crossover is arithmetic, not judgement, and plenty of stores sit on the wrong side of it for a year.

Frequently asked questions
When should I upgrade my Shopify plan?
When the card-rate saving exceeds the extra subscription. Moving from Basic at 2.9% to Grow at 2.7% saves 0.2% of card volume; against roughly $66 a month more in subscription, that needs about $33,000 a month in card sales to pay for itself.
Is the annual plan worth it?
It discounts the subscription substantially in exchange for a year's commitment. For an established store it is close to free money; for a new one it locks in a plan choice before you know your volume, which is precisely when the crossover calculation is least reliable.
Does the plan change my transaction fees?
It changes the Shopify Payments card rate, and it changes the extra fee charged for using a third-party gateway instead: 2% on Basic falling to 0.6% on Advanced. If you use an external gateway, that difference often matters more than the card rate.
What does the plan not change?
App subscriptions, themes, domains and payment processing charged by anyone other than Shopify. Those are the same on every plan, so they do not belong in this comparison, though they very much belong in your total cost.
